Tim Nerheim-Chereck

Tim Nerheim-Chereck
b. 1970 Portland, Oregon

American self-taught artist and composer Tim Nerheim-Chereck paints bold and energetic abstract landscapes following in the tradition of abstract expressionism, neo-expressionism and CoBrA movements.

Until the age of 40, Tim lived with undiagnosed bipolar 2 and composed countless unpublished classical music compositions. Then, while learning to live in balance over the next decade, he independently studied art history in preparation for pivoting his creative energy.

Finally, in early 2020 at the age of 49, Tim painted for the first time. Over the next two years, his practice would generate over 500 works on canvas and paper-primarily using acrylics, oil pastels, tempera sticks, markers, and wax crayons.

Tim’s fully intuitive works consider an attempt at understanding the quest for emotional perfection viewed through the lens of memory and the concurrent birth, loss and grief of the self.

Tim’s original works are included in private collections worldwide.

Artist Statement

I draw and paint moments in the overlapping space between physical and emotional presence informed by the investigation of memory and opposing states of debilitating depression through unrelenting joy.
